15 Genius Beauty Hacks

Here are some handy tips and tricks to make your life easier. From making your own leave-in conditioner and cleaning your hairbrushes to removing blackheads and getting the perfect manicure, these simple and convenient beauty hacks will change your life.

Hairbrush

To clean your hairbrush and make it as good as new, first remove all the hair by pulling it out or taking a scissor and cutting it. Once it is hair-free, fill a bowl with warm water and add a few drops of shampoo in it. Put the brush in the bowl. Take an old toothbrush, put some shampoo on the bristles and use it to scrub every nook and cranny of the brush. This will help you get rid of all the dust that gets stuck in it. Once you are done scrubbing, rinse the brush in warm water and let it dry overnight.

Diamond jewellery

Your diamond jewelry can start to lose its sheen over time. You can clean it by making a paste with baking soda and water and rubbing it over the jewellery with your hands and then rinsing it off. You can even use either shampoo or toothpaste (not the gel kind, but the white chalky kind) to clean your jewellery, by taking a toothbrush, scrubbing it and then rinsing it in clean water.

Leave-in conditioner

To make your own leave-in conditioner, mix one part of conditioner and three parts of water in a spray bottle. Spritz this on your hair before you leave the house. It will keep your hair smooth and frizz-free. In a pinch, if you are out and your hair is getting frizzy, use a tiny dot of hand cream or lotion to smooth it. Make sure you don’t use too much, or it will make your hair very greasy.

Blackheads

Instead of using blackhead strips, you can make your own blackhead remover by mixing water with baking soda to make a creamy paste. Apply it to your face and leave it on till it dries, then wipe it off with a damp cloth.

Body scrub

If you want to exfoliate your skin, mix some ground coffee into your body wash. The grinds will scrub your skin, exfoliating it and making it glow.

Deodorant

Instead of using a store-bought deodorant with tons of chemicals and toxins in it, just rub some essential oils like rose, bergamot or lavender on your armpits. They smell good and make your skin soft.

Nail polish

After you apply nail polish, to help it dry faster and set better, dip your nails into a bowl of cold water. This will speed up the drying process and prevent your polish from chipping and smudging.

Makeup brushes

Your makeup brushes can get dirty after some time, but instead of buying new ones just clean the old ones instead. Clean the bristles by dipping them in warm water and applying a drop of baby shampoo on them. Lather them gently and rinse with clean water. Repeat this until the water runs clean and there is no more makeup left on the brushes. Use a wet wipe to clean the handles thoroughly then lay them down flat on a towel to dry overnight.

Blush

If you are on the go and don’t have any blush with you, smudge a little bit of your lipstick on your cheekbones. It will give your cheeks color and nobody will know that it’s not blush. To make it look more even, you can rub a dot of lotion on your cheeks before you apply the blush. Just make sure that you don’t use too much and remove it properly when you get home.

Clothes hangers

If your clothes keep slipping off of their hangers, you can anchor them in place by hooking the label of your shirt on to the neck of the hanger and then putting on the shoulders as usual. You can also try slipping a rubber band onto each shoulder of the hangar so that your clothes don’t keep sliding off.

Dry shampoo

Dry shampoo is a trend that is catching on, for all those times that your hair is looking greasy but you don’t want to wash it. If you don’t have any on hand, use some baby powder instead. Put a little bit on your scalp and rub it in. It will absorb the oil and make sure your hair doesn’t look greasy. If the white powder shows on your hair, wipe those parts with a wet towel.

Hair wash

To wash your hair more effectively, sprinkle a little bit of baking soda into your shampoo. It cleans your hair better and helps to break down the product build-up in your hair that can make your hair look dirty faster. You will have to wash your hair less often, leaving one more day between each wash.

Manicure

Don’t you hate it when you are applying nail polish and a little bit of it gets on to your skin, making it look all messy? To stop that from happening, buy some non-toxic glue and paint it on to the skin around your nails. Apply your nail polish, then when you are done just peel off the glue from your skin. The bits of nail polish that went outside your nails will go with it, leaving your manicure looking neat and clean.

Split ends

Rather than cutting your hair time and again in an effort to get rid of split ends, try this simple method instead. Part your hair into four bunches and twist one bunch. Hold the twisted bunch with one hand and a scissor in the other. Look for the strands that are sticking out of the bunch and snip them off. Do the same with the other bunches.

Waves

To get perfect waves, tie your hair into four or five long plaits. Use your hair iron and iron over these plaits. When you are done, open up the plaits and you will have gorgeous waves that will last for days.
